Best Shooting Guard build

The SG build starts with shot quality: 3PT is the clear engine stat, MID and HAN create a second scoring path, and ATH plus PDEF stop the build becoming one-dimensional.

Position identity

Shooting Guard rewards a sharper offensive identity than PG. The 3PT weight sits alone at 3.0, with MID at 2.5 and HAN, FIN, and ATH at 2.0. That creates several viable scoring builds—but every route needs one defensive answer and enough creation to avoid becoming a stationary shooter.

Rounds 1–13

Draft plan

  1. 01

Take elite 3PT aggressively. It is the only 3.0-weight SG attribute and the hardest weakness to justify later.

  2. 02

Choose a second scoring lane: MID for a shot-maker, FIN for rim pressure, or HAN when the build must create its own looks.

  3. 03

ATH is not a cosmetic add-on. Its 2.0 weight equals HAN and FIN, so an A-range athlete can be the best pick on a weak shooting spin.

  4. 04

Finish with PDEF and CLU before collecting low-weight interior stats. A two-way closer is more stable than a fourth redundant scoring grade.

Three viable identities

Choose a build route

Movement Shooter

3PT · MID · ATH

Prioritize shooting gravity, then add HAN and enough PDEF.

Tradeoff: Excellent ceiling, but weak FIN can make the scoring profile narrow.

Three-Level Scorer

3PT · MID · FIN

Use HAN and CLU to connect all three levels.

Tradeoff: Consumes many premium slots before defense is addressed.

Two-Way Scorer

3PT · PDEF · ATH

Add one of HAN, MID, or FIN as the secondary offensive engine.

Tradeoff: Lower pure scoring peak, stronger season-to-season balance.

Spend rerolls with intent

Reroll rules

  • Reroll an early roster with no strong 3PT, MID, HAN, FIN, or ATH option; those five attributes define most of the SG score.
  • Keep elite PDEF or CLU once two scoring pillars are filled. The best late reroll is often the one you do not spend.
  • Do not chase REB or IDEF while HAN remains poor. Creation has substantially more SG weight than either big-man category.

Information changes the plan

Mode strategy

Classic
Compare all A-range scoring grades against the remaining slots; avoid filling MID and FIN while leaving HAN stranded.
Blind
Lean toward established shooters and primary scorers, then use known defensive specialists for PDEF.
Chaos
3PT, ATH, PDEF, HAN and CLU transfer cleanly to guards and wings, limiting the cost of a hidden position.

What drags the OVR down

Common SG mistakes

MistakeWhy it costsCorrection
Treating 3PT as the whole buildA stationary shooter leaves four 1.5–2.5 weight categories underpowered.Pair 3PT with one creation stat and one physical or defensive stat.
Ignoring ATHATH has the same 2.0 weight as HAN and FIN.Take an A-range athlete when the roster cannot upgrade the primary shooting slots.
Collecting every scoring statThe build can rate well offensively while PDEF and CLU remain season-long holes.Stop after two or three scoring pillars and reserve premium picks for balance.

Shooting Guard FAQ

Is 3PT always the first SG pick?

It is the highest-weight SG attribute, but an A+ HAN, ATH, or MID donor can still beat a weak shooting grade when the 3PT slot can be solved later.

MID or FIN for the second scoring skill?

MID has slightly more weight. FIN is the better alternative when ATH and HAN already support rim pressure.

How much defense is enough?

One strong PDEF grade is the priority. IDEF and BLK are useful late only when the higher-weight SG needs are secure.
